I like Josef Sudek’s remark that, “one should never dull it by wanting to know everything.” It does take effort to avoid the obvious but every now and then the picture lands well.
Just so I understand, are you taking that quote in the context of the photograph, i.e. leaving mystery in the photo may be better than making everything clear and readable?
The effort it takes to avoid the obvious is a really good kind of effort, as I’m sure you’d agree – it’s part of what keeps us engaged and eager to get out again. I really like the phrase, “the picture lands well.” That’s a good one!
Yes. This picture was a surprise to me too. While I was trying out some treatments yesterday, I found a route into something and there was one of those “oh wow” moments when you save the file and the process is complete. I think Sudek was in that place often, both in capture and treatment, and his quote maybe gives us permission to settle into the mystery without overthinking it.
Nice. Thanks for sharing (a cliche phrase but it’s all I can think of).
Sharing is easy. Showing interest and asking thoughtful questions takes some effort 🙏 🙂
Wonderful shot, John.
Thanks
Love the light and shadow
Appreciate that, thanks
You’re welcome!
I like it when you surprise us. 🙂
