  1. A minimalist’s happy place, but also very intriguing because I can’t help wondering why that abrupt change from light to dark happened, why the trees were planted like that, etc. Oh, Hans had the same idea – honestly, I didn’t read the comments before writing! 😉

    1. After I shot this scene of a manicured park, I remarked to Marguerite that a friend from the old days would’ve loved this spot (Richard Calvo). And I know he was inspired by people like Callahan, Caponigro et al.

The theme has been well-covered but it’s a pleasure to add to the list 😊

      1. As a theme, do you think it harkens back to early European photography of well manicured, orderly gardens and parks?

I just googled Richard Calvo – he was very good! And died too young.

        1. I’ve seen many 19c European photographs of orderly gardens and parks but no specific one comes to mind. To contrast with that, Le Gray’s Fontainebleau Forest photographs had a very different feel. That work was done in the 1850s

        2. Lynn, I was thinking about this topic again this morning and realized I’d forgot to mention Michael Kenna. His photographs of manicured park-like settings have been well-traveled over the last forty years
