  1. The things you do with water lily leaves! I love the colors, the soft sheen. Soft but still sharply defined. I like the way the curves have that pregnant, outwardly expanding look, like they’re full to the bursting.

    1. This series was done just a short walk from the back door, so it’s been interesting to watch the pond’s changing face through July. When I started shooting lily leaves twelve years ago on LI, it was really interesting how angle and focal length could play the music in so many different ways. For this most recent group, I’m using my 75mm, and for some, the high resolution handheld mode in the new camera. What that does, is bring in a lot of detail in highlights and shadows, and it can also can soften the water in interesting ways (if there’s any movement).

      1. I thought it must be nearby because I can see your familiarity with it. I know what you mean by what changing the angle can do with water – in the pond or on top of the leaves. That 75mm! I still think about getting one sometimes. I love how well Olympus (oops – OM!) does stabilization – it was one of the things that steered me to that line of cameras. I can only imagine how much better it is with newer models. Looks like you’re using those settings and advantages to their utmost here. You prove that perfect detail doesn’t have to equate with a clinical look.
