My eyes drift there as well. Strangely enough, the water surface and the overall tone of this picture makes me think of the black pottery from Santa Clara Pueblo
I’m not sure if I know that pueblo’s pottery but I’ve seen those blacks on pottery in the SW and I can see what you mean – that deep black with a certain softness. One of the times Joe & I were in AZ, I bought a smallish piece from Mata Ortiz, in Chihuahua – it’s probably very similar. Looking at it now, I see a myriad of grays and silvers and blacks.
