This was taken in a grove of a well-loved white pines in the picnic area of People’s State Forest in Barkhamsted CT. The West Branch of the Farmington River divides this section of woods from American Legion State Forest on the other side. The woods are home to bears and bobcats and moose are occasionally spotted as well. This stretch of river is wild and scenic; a destination for catch-and-release fly fishing. On my bike ride around both sides of the river a few days ago, I spotted many waist-deep fishermen quietly casting into the flow.

Great picture and great story with it
It’s a nice spot (plenty of shade). Thanks for commenting 🙂
I’m drawn to the horizontal, tonal bands of light and dark, or water/sky and vegetation, countered by the repetition of the standing-tall trees. Also, the view of bare tree trunks against the smaller trees full of leafy branches is interesting. And the soft focus is perfect for the scene. A keeper! Very satisfying.
Much appreciate the comment. This picture keeps reminding me of an image from 20c photography but I can’t recall any specific one to reference. It seems If I’d used a higher contrast treatment or applied more sharpness I would’ve shred the music 😊
Music, yes, it’s a lyrical image. It reminded me of a painting from the 19th or 20th century in the same way – nothing really specific but reminiscent of something. I think there’s a little Art Deco feeling, too, even though the painting & sculpture from that period was more defined.
Interesting comment about turn-of-the-century paintings and Art Deco design. Neither had crossed my mind but now that you mention it. I think the dialed-back contrast might suggest some of those elements
