Mojave Dusk

Joshua Tree National Park, 1994

This picture was taken on a trip to California in 1994. As was the case with the others, a square format image captured on film with a Hasselblad fixed-lens wide angle camera. What has pleased me most about these medium format resurrections is the smooth mid-range grayscale I’m finding when converting 30 year old color negatives; a result of that camera’s legendary optic.

          1. The album cover was actually shot at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley. But I think there were other images with the band with some Joshua Trees

  1. There was a time, not long ago, when I misssed shooting film. Not any more. I’m completely won over by the digital revolution. Especially now with the new processing tools available and the ease of use. Also, my house doesn’t smell like rotten eggs anymore.

    1. I don’t miss shooting film at all but I do miss some of the cameras. The digital revolution has resulted in great tools, a few decent cameras and a lot of mediocre prints.

  2. Yes, incredibly smooth, clearly visible in the sky. I’m guessing you wouldn’t get this with a modern digital camera.

It’s fun to see the Joshua trees near and far – especially the ones way in the background. (Things have been chaotic here, hope to catch up soon).

  3. This is a gorgeously ghostly picture of one of my favorite national parks. A very cinematic rendering of a moment from the passing of dark to light or light to dark. Something about the other wordly quality of the joshua trees and the landscape is reminiscent of those opening moments in 2001. Great place and great picture.
