I wouldn’t have believed a gasoline station could look romantic …
Not generally. With a passing set of taillights…maybe
What a compelling and simultaneously inviting image. A quiet sanctuary.
Sanctuary; what Joni Mitchell called “the refuge of the road.” Thanks Ed!
I love this. It immediately struck me as a minimal version of George Tice’s “Petit’s Mobil Station…” brought forward fifty years. Nice!
Thanks Mic. During the 70’s, that picture was a monumental presence for me, much like the water tower depicted in it. Like Weston’s pepper and Adams’ moonrise, it’s an image that continues to recharge the batteries.
I love this, John. I don’t know quite what it is about dark images that is so appealing to me – I much prefer brighter times in terms of daylight – but there is definitely a strong affinity for this look. And I see I’m not the only one! 😉 With the fog and subdued colors, this composition really sings.
Thanks for putting up the link – I know the photo but of course, didn’t quite remember it.
Thanks for your thoughts and thoughtfulness. Bright moments to you for the weekend.
And to you…crazy weather you have, so warm!
Love the image and the mood it conveys. So familiar… a gas station on a highway late at night, in the middle of nowhere
Beautiful post
Thank you Satyam

For those who might be interested, here’s a link to Tice’s image:

Same with me; I couldn’t have said it better.
Well caught!
Many thanks Sue! 🌟
