  1. This is extraordinarily beautiful. The depth and tenderness. And it’s funny how the submerged leaves seem like they’re from another faraway time but the reflection brings it all back to the present.

    1. Thanks. I know we all experience this on here, but this is a good example of a picture whose lack of a response was surprising. Appreciate the comment.

      1. Yes, I hear that! I was surprised when I scrolled down and saw that empty box. But you never know, right? And you could post the same photo in six months and get a different response. Not to say that it’s completely arbitrary but many factors come into play when it comes to responses to art.
Another thought about this image is that the submerged elements have a painterly quality (that must be what made me feel they could be from another time) and the reflection has the distinct quality of a photograph. It’s interesting to see those two realities together in one image.

        1. Happy that you think it has a painterly quality. Restraining contrast in some color photographs can result in some interesting images, I think.

As you say, many factors are at play when it comes to comments and “likes” (or the lack of them). I do miss some of the direct interaction with people at art shows which involved a more enriching form of communication.

          1. It took a long time for me to realize that I needed to dial back on the contrast sometimes.
Our annual Art Fair is this weekend. I look forward to it – there’s too much of the same jewelry but there are always a few people whose work is really worth seeing. They close off about 12 blocks in the old part of town for two days. There are 4 sound stages for music and they do a decent, large juried show in the old port building, a great space where you can see the water beneath your feet in some spots between the old floorboards. This is the last year they have the port building for some reason so I’m looking forward to it. I’ll remember what you said this time and maybe I’ll talk to the artists a little more this time.
