    1. Many thanks Ed. I sequenced these toward slightly less abstraction (beginning with this one, the least defined subject). That late-day lens flare conveys something pleasant to me… summer nearing midpoint.

    1. Appreciate that! ☺🌹

Because I know you like knowing what lenses I’m using, I’m pretty sure all six of your comments today were for images taken with the 75mm M. Zuiko. This was the first trip since I owned it when I used it more than any other focal length. I can’t recall if you picked up that lens. It’s certainly very close to your classic 60mm, so it’s probably not essential.

      1. That’s funny, I wanted to ask but I was trying not to. But I had a feeling it might be the 75mm. I’ve thought about getting the lens but resisted because of the cost and the fact that it might be of more limited use (for me)than the 60mm. I do lust after the aperture – I like the 45mm because it has that nice f1.8 aperture – but then I don’t use the 45mm much (probably because I’m so used to the 60mm focal length that I can’t get used to seeing with the 45). But given all that you ended up using the 75mm a lot recently, which is interesting. I guess it’s really hard to predict how much you’re going to use a given lens if you’re creative with your camera. You might be able to predict how much use you’d get from a lens if you did everything by formulas. So who knows what I might do with the 75mm – but we do know how much I would spend! 😉 You’ve certainly done beautiful work with this lens!

          1. I think I paid around $600-something. And I’m pretty sure it was from the Olympus store in their refurbished section. No issues with the lens and although I bought a lens hood I prefer to work without it and let the sun do its thing

          2. … to be honest about pros and cons, the weight is significantly more than your 60mm (305g vs 180g). I guess you’d need to “weigh” that fact if you’re really considering it. For me, it can get a little tedious working with it for an extended period, especially because I’m using a grip as well.

        1. Overall, I’d have to say that the additional reach and the option to shoot with a wide open aperture really expands the lens language into abstraction. After a half hour with this lens you feel like you’ve been somewhere unusually absorbing. Maybe think about it…

  1. This has been a good conversation, John, thank you. I just bought a used lens from KEH. It should be here soon. It’s just a compact zoom that I’ll use for travel – a lens I’ve had before that isn’t perfect but is very convenient (14-42 EZ ED). I know the electronic zoom (I wish it was mechanical) can break but it was cheap and I have decent warranty time on it. I’ll see how this goes and then consider buying the 75mm refurbished. I like “expands the lens language into abstraction.” And what you said in the next sentence. I know what you mean, I’ve had that experience. 🙂
