  1. These ruins are at the former stone quarry used during the construction of the Ashokan dam and reservoir a century ago. The reservoir is the the main source of water for NYC.

    1. Thanks Ed. These ruins have a monumental feel to them, especially now that they’re enveloped in deep woods. There’s a metaphor there, I think…all that human ambition seems pretty transient when viewed from the deeper time of nature.

      1. This has a timeless feel to it. Can’t help but conjure up the haunting melody of “Ashoken Farewell,” while looking at this. Nature proceeds; human ambition fades and crumbles.
