To me, this picture was interesting because of the way the two dimensional surface was thrown into relief by the late day sun. That low-angled light brings the third dimension back to the image– in those rusty textures and in the ripples and indentations across the surface.
I love this—for the aspects you point out to Ed. The warm light is also appealing.
