I am really liking your images from Arches this winter, John. This one brought to mind the first pages of Edward Abbey’s “Desert Solitaire”. I have never been there in winter; I should try to do that before I get too much older. In the mean time, I’m very content to look at your photographs.
Thanks. His book was a game-changer for me back in the day, as it was for a lot of young people in the environmental movement. It’s great to know we share an interest in his work and for the canyon country. Much appreciate the comment. 🙂
Another Edward Abbey lover here….and do you know about Everett Ruess? WAY more obscure, but a wonderful read.
And i too would love to see the southern Utah desert with snow. That’s a beautiful, calm landscape, above.
Everett, and his mysterious disappearance in Escalante Canyon, has been tugging at me nearly as long as Desert Solitaire. 🙂
🙂 It’s such a story, isn’t it?
It’s hard to imagine how wild that canyon was before the arrival of Lake Powell. Incredible story.
…and thanks Lynn—I’m happy you liked the image, it’s one of my favorites from the trip too.
Reblogged this on Le Bien-Etre au bout des Doigts.
Merci Françoise
